Drivetime's reply to: Resolved: BUYERS BEWARE

Hello Catherine,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I want to deeply apologize that you have encountered these concerns with your vehicle. Please know that while we inspect all of our vehicles prior to placing them on our sales lots, since they are pre-owned it is unknown if or when these sort of concerns may arise. It is for this reason that we offer the 30 day Limited Warranty on all of our vehicles along with optional Vehicle Service Contract. With that being said, I see that you have been in contact with my Customer Relations team and encourage you to maintain contact so that we may reach an amicable resolution.

Thank You,
Kaitlyn - Customer Relations

Resolved: BUYERS BEWARE

Updated by user Jan 11, 2019

UPDATE: After a lot of phone calls and stressing the importance of my safety they finally agreed to cover all 3 tires.

Original review Jan 06, 2019

BUYERS BEWARE!!! I recently purchased a car at Drivetime in Columbus, Ohio.

The actual buying experience was great, the person who helped me was very nice and worked with me to get me a car. A few days after driving it I noticed it pulling to the right, I had a 30 day warranty with SilverRock so I took it to a place in their network for an alignment. The dealership I took it to informed me that I had 3 bad tires, needed an alignment and the battery tested extremely low. They called in the claim and were told the battery and alignment are covered but not the tires.

They refuse to replace them, and continue to fight with me about it as if it were going to bankrupt them to do so. They are ignoring the full diagnosis of the tires that state they are cupped on the inner and outer tread, and the tread is reading at 5/32, 5/32 and 4/32. This cupping not only causes road noise and a less than smooth ride, but it causes me to hydroplane when it's raining. When I mentioned this to the manager, Morgan, he simply told me all cars hydroplane all the time and there is nothing wrong with these tires.

So I want to warn you that this is how they handle their business, they are jeopardizing the SAFETY of their customers and ignoring the warnings from 2 different mechanics. They do not feel this is their mistake nor should they fix it. I flat out told them I do not feel safe on the road with the condition of these tires but they continue to dismiss my claims and talk to me as if I were a child. Now I realize I bought a used car, but there is no excuse for it to have these issues that should have been checked and replaced before I drove it off the lot.

DriveTime and SilverRock are highly unprofessional, unreasonable and are perfectly fine with me driving on dangerous tires that can easily be replaced. I feel taken advantage of and completely unsafe in my newly purchased vehicle.

If I had the option to return it I would, but I no longer have my original car. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.

Cons:
  • Unreasonable
  • Difficult
  • No concern for the safety of their customers
Reason of review:
Damaged or defective

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution

Long story short I purchase my car provide my pay stubs place a down payment everything was great. Until 3 weeks after having the car I was asked to provide bank statements.

Due to me switching banks i did not have a recent statement just yet but i did provide old bank statements even a statement from my cash app where my direct deposit was going to. About two weeks after my car was took away from me. After talking to the lien holder Bridgecrest they informed me that they were not the one that took the car, and everything was fine on their end and i needed to call the dealership. After going back and forth with the manger at the dealership he told me that someone from my job "called" in to say that i no longer work for the company.

I called my job headquarters to speaks to the payroll admin. Was told there's no way anyone would have called and do a verification over the phone and they do not see any paperwork from DriveTime. After going back and forth and speaking to multiple customer service people with DRiveTime i was told i will not be getting the car back and it s consider fraud on my end, and the only way i will be getting my money back is after the car is took back to the dealership.

Well when i went to get my property from the car they lady at the tow yard told me there is no way this car is leaving the yard unless its going starlight to the auction. The bank loan is still open on my credit and i can not get a new car until that is closed and i also have not been told when i will be receiving a refund.

  • Bad customer service

Drivetime's reply to: Resolved: Son can not obtain principle pay off balance

Hello Alan,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I want to apologize for any reservations either you or your son might have regarding the status of his loan.

In reference to the overall amount your son owes on his vehicle, please know that we try to maintain a strong sense of transparency by providing each customer with a Federal Truth in Lending disclosure to each customer at the time of sale. This disclosure details the APR, the finance charge, the amount financed, the total amount expected to be paid throughout the life of the loan, and the total sales price.

Additionally, if either you or your son are looking to discuss payment history or payoff information in further detail, we would encourage reaching out to the lien holder directly at your earliest convenience.

Resolved: Son can not obtain principle pay off balance

Updated by user Oct 21, 2018

Still not been able to obtain the Principle payoff balance.

Original review Sep 20, 2018

My son's financial situation has improved and he wants to pay of loan with Drive Time. He needs payoff principle on auto purchased three years ago for $15,000.

At $250 every two weeks for three years he has paid an approximate $17,000 on this loan; however balance app has balance owed of approx. $12,000. We all know that this is if payment period is for duration of the loan.

How can he get a payoff for just the principle? As of say 9/30/18?

Sadly I need one hundred words.

And sadly I hate to make threats.

But this is a simple financing request that he has been unable to satisfy through his Denver dealer. If the payoff request is not made I will help him file a complaint under Colorado's Consumer Credit Law.

Terrible company! My experience with them is the equivalent of a thief robbing your house then suing because they had to pick the lock. I purchased a car from them in 2009, a used Suzuki Aerio, great car by the way, when our finances were at a low ebb and we needed a second vehicle. It needed brakes almost immediately, but good transport. For four years we paid off our payments faithfully, by then we were in better shape, and purchased another vehicle and let my teenage daughter drive it. We got a big tax refund and paid off four payments at once in 2013, leaving us less than a year left on the car. WE THOUGHT! They listed it all as ONE PAYMENT then notified us that we were late the next payment(we thought it was a computer glitch) , then 2 weeks later repo-ed the car. Okay, my daughter had just gotten into some trouble(rare for her, but bad enough that we let the car go as punishment), even though we had less than a year to pay. Cut to 2018, I check my credit score and find an $8000+(at least 3 times the amount we had left to pay) that DriveTime has sold to a collection agency TWO YEARS AFTER re-poing my car that I had paid TWO PAYMENTS ahead on, after never notifying me that they thought I owed on the car,(and I didn't, they owed me $ 600 for two payments they kept when they stole the car) and it is killing my credit! NEVER will I pay this off or darken their door again.PS They will tell you that it is not DriveTime's fault and to contact Bridgecrest who handles their loans. Funny thing, check out the CEO and board of Drive Time, then look up the same for Bridgecrest. And I mean the SAME because that's what they are, exactly the SAME PEOPLE!

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention; we appreciate the opportunity address your concerns. We apologize greatly for any frustration or dissatisfaction you have experienced. At DriveTime, we strive to provide a tailored experience, making the purchasing and ownership process simple and straightforward.

In reference to the vehicle that was purchased and later returned, please know that we try to prevent mechanical malfunctions by inspecting each of our vehicles prior to sale. For this reason, we provide a 30-day, 1,500-mile warranty with the option for our financed customers to purchase additional coverage. We also offer our 5-day Vehicle Return Program in case our customers are not satisfied with their vehicle for any reason. Around 11am today the car was sent to Meineki for an engine inspection and they found the cause of the problem. A wrench was left in the engine compartment that cause the noise and must have cause the vibration of the vehicle.

It appears that the it didn't do damage on the motor nor the fan but was advised to keep an eye for any noise. Also Mr. Jacob whom who was very patient and been monitoring the progress of my claim had been very instrumental in resolving the issue. Drivetime thru Mr.

Jacob offered to pay the diagnostic fee and cover the payment for the brakepads.

The issue had been fix and the notice in the car has been removed. Thank you.

Just this morning I made a payment of $51.00 to make the account current. Guess what they still won’t allow it because it needs to be posted first..

another BS this company is trying to trick everyone.

I’ll wait when this is posted and see what happens again. Please avoid doing business with this company it’s not worth the stress.

Original review Feb 05, 2018

It all started way back May 13, 2017 when I signed the contract for an h3 hummer. I am fully aware that it’s a pre owned vehicle and had been briefed accordingly.

As claim by the company “160 point inspection”. When we did the pre inspection I already notice the rust underneath the vehicle and ask the salesman. They told me it’s part of the normal wea and tear and doesn’t affect the performance of the vehicle. It took me about close to two months when finally the sunroof leaked that the problem is far more worst than what it thought.

The rust overwhelmed and when meineki filed to SR they outrightly denied the claim due to the fact it doesn’t pose safety of the vehicle. It was a back and forth thing until finally Drivetime offered to replace the vehicle. I ask that time from them to give me time and finally I agreed to exchange the vehicle despite the fact that after paying about two months of payment by redoing another loan would mean I have to say goodbye on my $800 and start all over again. I opted to replace the hummer with a 2014 FORD escape.

August 13, 2017 we did a road test and finally sign a new contract. I am not a car expert nor a mechanic so I trust the judgement and assurance from the staff. They disclose that there was a recall on the vehicle and all I have to do is to bring it to FORD. It took about 1 month before FORD can put me in the schedule and finally about September FORD diagnose the vehicle and found the battery needs to be replace as it is bad.

That Saturday I immediately brought the vehicle to blackstire along with the inspection report but to my surprise there battery reader had a different result. I was told by the mechanic that it will take about a drop in the temperature before the battery completely fails and should it happen bring the vehicle back in blackstire. From September to December I have experience some errors in the vehicle like transmission in park and passenger door open and all I thought a mere turn off of the vehicle and back on will do the trick. After I got back from vacation in Orlando the battery is all dead.

I have to call AAA to start up the vehicle and reported the problem to SR and Drivetime and surprise the battery isn’t covered on more. I argued back and forth until finally they made an offer to fix the battery. I accepted the offer subject to the vehicle will be inspected by FORD. I brought the vehicle to Ford and they fix the recall and they inform me that the rear brake pads needs to be replaced and I have to prepare some money for the tires.

And again as this notorious company does brake pads like battery aren’t covered. Along with the arrangement was to make sure the account will be current. I have $481balance on the payment I paid a total of $400.00. This morning February 5, 2018, I call customer relations and ask the agent if they could aapprove the repairs and the $81 will be added the next bill.

The agent didn’t categorically answer a yes or no instead transferred me to bridgecrest and here I am a damn fool made an arrangement thinking it’s all set but surprise: I was transferred back to customer relations and only to be informed that the $81 needs to be cleared. From the very start of the call I told the agent “I have $81 with me but I have to replace the brake pads”. The problem with this company is so shady and some kinda hypocrites. AGAIN this happen not just once but twice.

I finally come to terms I will not stress myself with this company instead I will pay the dues and I’ll make sure that when I’m driving this vehicle a sign in my window will say “Drivetime sucks. Buy & Beware. Do not do business with them or suffer the same fate”. I have put a complaint with BBB and waiting.

But for the time being I want everyone to know and hope learn from my experience.

I am just lucky I have two other vehicles that I can use and felt so obligated to share this experience especially to those who aren’t fortunate like me. AGAIN DO NOT ENGAGE BUSINESS WITH THIS DRIVETIME.

Resolved: DON'T STEAL FROM ME!

Updated by user Sep 20, 2016

Well, I'm really surprised. I called them and they offered to reimburse me for the tire and the spare. I appreciate that.

Original review Sep 12, 2016

I've bought two cars at this location. The first one had a spare that didn't fit the car. My new one had a spare when I was inspecting it with the salesman Michael Dunlap but he removed the spare while I was signing the final papers and he was "cleaning up the car for me". The car was clean to begin with and didn't look any different after he was done. They have you go inside and sign with someone else while they steal your spare tire. I discovered this when I got a flat and needed it. I just didn't think to look again before I left because, seriously why would they do that? Ridiculous. I wrote a letter to corporate. They never responded. I assured them in the email I would make a huge deal out of it if it wasn't made right. I'm only on my third review website now but I'm sick and off work today so I got plenty of time and I'm just getting started.

Also, other than keeping an eye on Michael the thief, don't let them convince you to finance *** stuff but GET THE GAP COVERAGE! The amount of money you have to finance the car for is outrageous and if your car is totalled the insurance isn't going to pay for the balance you owe. They pay for the value of the car and it leaves you with a car payment on a car you no longer have. It's worth it. Make them remove the Sky link service. It's used to track and disable your car if they need to repossess it and they can have it turned on if they need to do so. There's no reason for you to finance that and pay interest on it. I had them remove the DriveCare powertrain as well because I was buying a dependable car with little miles that was still covered under the manufacturer's warranty. It's also *** coverage that doesn't really cover anything and doesn't last long enough to justify the thousands of dollars they charge that will be even more thousands of dollars when you are paying interest on it.

We discussed the price and the things I wanted him to remove and then he went and got the paperwork and I saw that he didn't remove the Skylink or DriveCare. I told him that I wanted him to remove it (again, we literally just discussed it) and he said "we have to start all over if I do that and it will take a while" like that would make me say "well okay, I'll just pay several extra thousands of dollars". Wtf?? I told him to remove it and i'd wait. Don't let them get sneaky on you! If you decide to remove something make sure to look and see that they did it because they will add it back on in hopes you will let them get away with it. When he finally returned with the new paperwork he had an attitude and said "I did it. I was tempted to charge you more for the car but I decided not to." I didn't say anything. If he had I would have just left.

After that they have someone from some other department go over the final paperwork and the salesman goes out and steals your spare tire. Also, you put something on my black car that left permanent white streaks on it and something on the seats that makes permanent water stains if you get any water on them. I don't know what that's about but how about you keep yourself inside and leave peoples cars alone since you do nothing but steal stuff and ruin whats left?

Don't buy a car from DriveTime unless you have to. The KBB on my first car was around $8k but the base price I paid was $13k and then the financing made the total on it $31K. Like I said, only if you have no other option.

Sales experience was smooth, placed in car I wanted. Aftercare with warranty and customer relations a nightmare.

Car trouble a month after getting it. Covered under warranty but have been lied to, multiple people offering multiple solutions, none of which actually happen. Car sat in repair facility for multiple weeks, no help with rental car except for offer of reimbursement even after I explicitly and clearly explained that I simply don't have the money to keep spending on rental cars with a car payment ; after 2 weeks they said they would direct bill rental, but aren't, after the fact. One person told me they would suspend my payments while car in shop, found out later not true and now past due.

Used part provided for repair resulting in more problems with car, back into shop. Complaint filed with BBB, still no resolution or help.

When you ask for someone above customer relations you are told there is no supervision for customer relations. That's just asinine.

DriveTime NEVER Reported to Credit Reporting Agencies

It only shows like 5 payments, but it IS showing.

Thank you Drivetime for doing as you told me you would do years ago.

So I spoke with somebody at the customer relations number. The agent told me that he would expedite my case.

It's a couple days over a month and I have not heard anything from DT or even seen anything on my credit report.

So it would seem DT wants to take your money and not do anything to help you other than sell you another car and keep you in the same circle of no real credit.

I'm still upset about all this.

Original review Sep 26, 2015

I purchased a vehicle from DriveTime in February 2011. I didn't have good credit to go to a real dealership. I saw on the DriveTime website they financed anybody and helped build up your credit with the credit reporting agencies.

I paid my car off in February 2014. Now in September of 2015 I am trying to purchase another vehicle. The credit union I went to tells me I have no history of paying such a large amount. I know I have.

I called DriveTime and was told the same story others have been told about a revamping of the credit reporting system. Anybody with an account closed prior to October 2014 is no longer reported. They can't resubmit the info because "their system shows the account as being paid off?" They offered to send me the same "credit rating" form others have spoke of. Credit union and bank underwriters don't care about that form, they want to see it reported to the credit reporting agencies.

DriveTime told me I have to contact the credit reporting agencies and dispute with them about what DriveTime didn't report.

My loan application was declined due to "inadequate collateral." This was due to my not realizing the vehicle I specified had over 100,000 miles. This could be resolved by going with something with less miles.

The other reason I was declined was "limited credit file for type and/or amount requested." This is because DriveTime did not report anything for my account.

I have the "Credit Rating" form from DriveTime, it shows me as having 0x30, 0x60 and 0x90 late payments. I can only imagine how much higher my credit score would be had DriveTime honored what they said they would do for me by reporting.

So now all I have to show for the over-paying I did for my vehicle is ...

Nothing.

Resolved: Drive Time Car Sucks - So does service!!

Updated by user Aug 20, 2012

I received a check for the amount of the repairs. Thanks!! I am once again a happy customer.

Original review Jul 07, 2012
First, this is my 4th car with Drive Time over a period of 12 years. To this point I have been a satisfied customer, but no more. I purchased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee about 4 months ago and have had the following issues - front wheel bearing replaced, tune-up (result of engine light), water pump and O2 sensor replaced. The only item covered by the warranty was the water pump. WOW!! I went to the dealership and was told my the manager that "we only sell the cars" so there was nothing he could do. After a couple months I received a call from someone at DT to "see if I was satisfied" with my car. After telling her all the issues I've had with the car she said she would tell her manager. Now that was about a month ago and of course still no contact from anyone. In the first 4 months of having the car I have spent almost $1,000.00 in repairs and lost time from work because of the limited number of shops that are authorized. I will NOT be purchasing a 5th vehicle from Drive Time unless they step up and make this right.

This will be the last post I make. I opened my mailbox today and was pleasantly surprised to find a check from Drive Time for the amount of the repairs. They have made me a happy customer again.

Thanks to Matthew for leaving me the message that helped resolve the issue.

Ken H Pyr

After reading the request from Matthew I did as he suggested. I contacted them and spoke to a rep named Will.

He hemmed and hawed for a while about the issue and finally asked me to fax him the receipt for the wheel bearing repairs ($315.00). I did as he asked within 10 minutes of our conversation on 8/7/2012.

He stated that he would contact me in a couple days. Well, it's been over a week and no response.

Wow this explains 1. Easy approval.

2. Low down payment 3. 3 year warranty on ALL vehicles. I have not purchased a DT vehicle but test drove a 2006 Saturn Vue today.

I found the prices are VERY over inflated. The 06 Vue retails for $8,900 DT PRICE $15,900 WITH 96K MILES??? Looking at their website ALL vehicles have HIGH mileage and inflated prices $5-10k over blue book RETAIL. Worse than that INTERSET rate 15-25%.

Reading these complaints have really helped in my decision to not buy from DT. Is this just DT or the NEW way of doing \"American\" Business (Escalated profits, Inflated prices, and terrible customer service ?) Ive found these same types of predatory loan companies in many of the major purchase area items in this country. Home loans, appliance loans, furniture loans, payday loans. They claim to "assist" credit challenged people but in the end take advantage.

Sell you something and then forget about you. Capitalism?

I am going to have call BS on this story. If you bought 4 cars from drivetime then your credit would been good to go to another dealership. You must be dumb.
